100 talented squash juniors battled for trophies and prize money in the 2nd Allam Humber Junior Squash Open this weekend at Hull and East Riding squash club. This England squash sanctioned event sponsored by Mr Assem Allam's company Allam Marine Ltd saw top national players from all around the country compete. The tournament had everything from tears to elation as the players battled their way through each round to try and win their respective age group trophies. At the end of the weekend featuring 150 games we had the presentation to all the finalists. The Humber Junior Squash Academy now thriving, had a number of players entering the event, some with their first taste of a national England squash event and some seasoned players entering as hot favourites. In the main events Humber Junior Academy Finalists on the day were: Girls U 11 Aisha Forster ranked 7 in England fought out an epic 5 setter with the current Yorkshire champion Emma Gill from Halifax losing 12-10 in the 5th set after saving 4 match balls and having 1 for herself. Boys U 13 Final had Hull's own national star Yusef Forster pitched against Pontefract's Elliott Ridge. Yusef fresh from representing the North East England team last week played a great final working his opponent around the court to take the trophy and title 3-1. Girls U 15 Final saw Zoe Kaiser continue her rise in her squash career taking the silver cup finishing second in a very competitive group. Zoe still only 12 nationally ranked 14 and like Yusef fresh from her North East of England call up, is now showing she will be a force to reckon with in the U 15 age group later this year. Boys U 17 Final. Humber Junior Academy player Sam Haycock fought his way through a very tough draw winning a fantastic semi final but just falling short at the last hurdle. Boys U 19 Final saw local boy James Earles England and European no 3 play England no 5 Adam Auckland. In an exceptional final James was the winner on his home soil 3-1. In the Plate Finals Humber Junior Squash Academy had new young stars achieving: Girls U 11 plate finalist was up and coming young star Lydia Robinson only 8 years of age. Boys U 13 plate had 2 finalists from the Humber Junior Academy. Thomas Earles and Andy Brown (elder brother of young Tom) Thomas came out the winner in a quality game. Boys U 15 Plate final. Ben Robinson took the runners up trophy losing a very close 5 setter. Ben is now demonstrating a potential to trouble many nationally ranked U 15 players. Boys U 11 plate finalist saw another local star of the future Tom Brown again only 8 years old battle through a terrific semi final against Local boy Morgan Wild.
